By Ben Nadeau,
In a rematch of this year’s Northeast Regional Championship match, No. 6 seeded Emerson College Quidditch overcame city rival No. 3 seeded Boston University (BU) in the Elite Eight by a score of 90*-50. BU’s chaser Blake Parson and Emerson’s keeper Wesley Weiss were the stars of the game, leading their respective teams in scoring. In more recent match-ups, players like Emerson keeper David Fox and BU keeper Brendan Stack carried their respective squads, but neither was able to help pull out of snitch range.
Oddly, BU decided not to use beaters Katrina Bossotti and Max Havlin together for the majority of the game, changing up a proven strategy that has led it over Emerson in the past. Additionally, Bossotti was only briefly on the field during snitch play and subbed out during a critically important moment that gave Emerson’s seeker plenty of free one-on-one time with the snitch.
BU was dealt its first loss of the tournament, which eliminated the Northeast Regional Champions and ended the collegiate careers of Stack, Havlin, Bossotti and Michael Powell. Emerson improved to 7-0 at World Cup VII and will now face Texas State University in the semifinals.
